If you're one of the estimated 700,000 Americans suffering from PMR, you know that this debilitating condition can make even simple tasks a real challenge.

PMR is a medical condition that can cause widespread muscle aches and joint pain throughout the body. It is most common in Caucasian women over the age of 70. PMR usually affects the shoulders, hips, and neck and occasionally joints such as the wrists, elbows, and knees. Pain from this condition is typically at its worst upon waking in the morning and improves as the day progresses. Performing morning tasks, such as brushing your hair or getting dressed, is challenging. Other symptoms may include difficulty sleeping and general aches and pains in the legs and feet.

If left untreated, PMR can lead to a loss of strength in joints and muscle wasting. This can impair mobility, making it difficult to stand or walk.

While there is no cure for this condition, its symptoms can be treated successfully to improve your quality of life. Medication is often used to reduce inflammation and ease pain, including corticosteroids like prednisone.

LEARN IF YOU QUALIFY FOR OUR STUDY

HAVE PMR? YOU MAY QUALIFY FOR OUR RESEARCH STUDY

The purpose of this study is to demonstrate the effectiveness and safety of a new treatment option in adult participants diagnosed with PMR who have recently relapsed.

How the Study Works

The length of this study is 76 weeks. Patients who fit the qualifications will be placed in one of three groups randomly.

The study will require a time commitment for study visits every 1 to 4 weeks at our clinic in The Woodlands, Texas.

Two groups will receive treatment and the other will receive a placebo. A placebo looks like the real treatment, but it has no active ingredients. Study participants and study staff will not know who is receiving the placebo or who is receiving the drug.

Each appointment will feature health checkups and questions related to your daily life with PMR. Various activities, such as blood draws and EKGs may also be required at study appointments.

Do You Qualify?

Not everyone with PMR will qualify for this study. There are specific criteria patients must meet. Here is a list of the most basic criteria:

  • You must have a diagnosis of Polymyalgia Rheumatica by a Rheumatologist.
  • Be at least 50 years of age.
  • Do not have Fibromyalgia or Rheumatoid Arthritis.

You may fit all of these eligibility requirements, but some additional criteria may make you ineligible.
